BC's top 10 tennis players as of December 10, 2010: |

Men's Rankings
The top rank this year belongs to North
Vancouver's Philip Bester,
the 2010 Stanley Park Open champion. Philip, at No. 4 in Canada
close behind Frank Dancevic, won singles and doubles at a pro event in
Alabama and made it to two finals last
summer in Spain and France.
Vernon's Vasek Pospisil, at No. 2 spot in BC and
No. 5 in Canada, made news when teamed up with Milos Raonic, the top Canadian, to shock the world's top two players, Spain's Rafael Nadal and Serbian Novak Djokovic, in
the Toronto
Masters, 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.
Henry Choi, the number one player
in both 2007 and 2008, stands in third place and Daniel Chu, the 2009 top player,
dropped to No. 4 this year.
A new addition to the Top 10 players in BC
this year is 16-year-old Filip Peliwo. North Vancouver's Filip,
the top ranked junior in Canada, is one of the few selected players from across the country to join Tennis Canada’s National Training Program in Montreal.
Women's Rankings Rebecca Marino finished the year
as the top player in Canada, ahead of Aleksandra Wozniak.
Vancouver's Rebecca is climbing the world rankings, hitting a
career-high mark of No. 105 in December. She reached the second round of
the U.S. Open where she gave Venus Williams a tough match in Arthur Ashe Stadium before losing 7-6, 6-3.
West Vancouver's Sinziana Chis, No. 2, has finished her
Cornell University career in New York and Alejandra Enderica, No.
8, is
the winner of the 2010 Outdoor Provincial championship.
Thirteen-year-old
Alexis Prokopuik
is the youngest of them all. She is the Under 14 top Junior player
in BC. |
