Men's Rankings
The top rank this year belongs to Vernon's
Vasek Pospisil.
Vasek is enjoying a break-through season. For a player who had never won a match at the ATP Challenger event, Vasek
reached the 2nd round of the U.S. Open, posting his first Grand Slam
main draw victory. And in the September Davis Cup playoff round, he won three matches to
push Canada to a 3-2 upset win over Israel to qualifying Canada for the Davis Cup World Group for the first time since 2004. Vasek's
success in Davis Cup play, carried into the rest of the season. He
defeated world No. 24 John Isner in the first round at Valencia. Vasek
is ranked 119 in the world and is the No. 2 player in Canada
behind Milos Raonic.
Philip Bester reached a career high of 229
ranking after winning a Davis Cup rubber match against Ecuador's Ivan Endara in July 2011. Unfortunately, because of a stress fracture in his wrist in
the summer, he missed
both playing at the Rogers Cup and the qualifying play at the U.S. Open. Philip, with his current ranking of 362, stands at No. 2 spot in BC and No. 7 in Canada.
The third spot belongs to the top-ranked junior in Canada,
Filip Peliwo
of North Vancouver. The 17-year-old Filip reached the Orange
Bowl 50th Intl. Championships - Boys 18 semifinal in Florida, one of the world's most prestigious junior events.
He lost in a heart-breaking three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, to Austrian Patrick Ofner.
Henry Choi, the 2011 Stanley Park Open champion
and the number one player
in both 2007 and 2008, stands in 4th place this year. Henry
recently joined the coaching staff at the Steve Nash Tennis Club.
Kamil Pajkowski,
a doubles specialist, reached a career high ATP doubles ranking of 356 in 2011.
He played many Future and Challenger doubles events, and some
of them
with Phillip Bester. Kamil is the winner of the Cuba F1 (Havana) $10K
Futures Doubles
and USA F30 (Pensacola FL) $10K Futures Doubles.
Women's Rankings
Rebecca Marino
finished the year at No. 64 in the world and as the top player in
Canada again this year. Vancouver's Rebecca climbed the world rankings, hitting a
career-high mark of No. 38 in July. She reached the second round of
the Australian Open, the third round of French Open and the second round at Wimbledon.

is
Monica Neveklovska,
the winner of the Stanley Park Open Doubles. Monica lost the Open
Singles to
Katerina Boiko,
this year.
Alexis Prokopuik, the Under 16 top Junior
player in BC, was the winner of the Girls' 16 title at a
USTA Regional Tournament Segment
in Las Vegas.
The youngest player this year is 14-year-old
Stacey Fung, standing at the No. 8 spot. |
