Men's Rankings
The top ranked
Vasek Pospisil is Canada's No. 2 in singles and No. 3 in doubles and he is an important member of the Canada Davis Cup team. Vasek will be playing for Canada
against Spain in February in Vancouver. He won the Rimouski Challenger
in March and the Granby Challenger in July this year. The 22-year-old
also competed in the London Olympics, partnering with Daniel Nestor to
finish ninth in the men’s doubles.
While
Philip Bester became the first Canadian to reach a grand slam final in singles in
2006 junior French Open,
Filip Peliwo became the first Canadian male ever to win a Grand Slam in singles with his
2012 Wimbledon boys' title win. Filip, the top-ranked junior in the world, won his second straight junior Grand Slam title at the
2012 US Open. Filip Peliwo has had a
great year, reaching the final of every junior Grand Slam event held in 2012.
George Jecminek, the 2012 Stanley Park Open champion, stands in 4th place
and
Henry Choi,
the runner-up,
at 5th place. Henry recently joined the Richmond Country Club as their head
tennis coach.
Women's Rankings The top rank again this year belongs to 21-year-old
Rebecca Marino. Rebecca is back on tennis tour following seven months off this year due to physical and mental fatigue. She moved her training base back to Vancouver from Montreal working mostly with Alex Korch and JJ Mahoney at the UBC
tennis centre. Rebecca currently stands at No. 115 in the world.

Katerina Boiko,
the winner of the Stanley Park Open singles.
Alexis Prokopuik started the year with winning BC Indoor U18 Championships and the Canadian
National U16 Indoor Championships in Montreal, QC and later, she was asked to play at a higher age category and managed to finish 3rd at the Canadian Outdoor U18 Jr. Championships. Alexis played 7 weeks straight on the
Caribbean and Canadian Western junior ITF tours. She reached one singles final (Edmonton) and two semis (Vancouver and
Winnipeg) and won the doubles title in Edmonton. With that Alexis's Jr. ITF ranking went from #1500 to #439 currently. Alexis has now moved to Montreal to attend the National Training Center (NTC) and within NTC, she has been travelling to
many WTA events. Tennis BC has recently awarded Alexis Prokopuik with
Jr. Female Athlete of the year for 2012.
The fourteen-year-old Rosie Johanson is the
youngest player in the top ten this year. Rosie was the winner of the U14 Girls singles and doubles at
the
Indoor Provincials in March, the finalist at the U14 Girls
Indoor Nationals and the winner of the U16
Girls singles at the
Outdoor Provincials in July. She won the Women's Open at Delta and was the finalist in the Burnaby Women's Open. Rosie recently won a U18 Endorsement tournament in Portland, Oregon. |
