Men's Rankings
The top ranked
Vasek Pospisil is Canada's
No. 2 in singles. Vasek has been named Most Improved Male Player of the
year by Tennis Canada thanks to a breakthrough season on the ATP Tour
which he climbed nearly 100 spots in the rankings after closing out 2012 at world No. 125 and ending this year at his career-high ranking of No. 32. Vasek's confidence grew as he captured the Odlum Brown Vancouver Open. He later went straight to Rogers Cup in Montreal to clinch his first Top 10 win against Tomas Berdych in the third round, and ultimately advanced all the way into the
semis before falling to fellow Canadian Raonic.
No. 2
spot belongs to the former junior world No. 1,
Filip Peliwo.
, He captured the Junior Wimbledon and Junior US Open titles last year.
Filip has climbed from outside the Top 500 in professional tennis to a high of No. 251 in the world. He ha teamed up
recently with Spanish coach Galo Blanco in Barcelona.
Philip Bester, the 2013 Stanley Park Open
champion, stands in third place
and
George Jecminek,
the runner-up, at 4th place.
Women's Rankings
The top rank this year belongs to
17-year-old Alexis Prokopuik. Alexis has had a great transition year in 2012/13 moving from her hometown of West Vancouver to the National Training Center in Montreal. With Tennis Canada, Alexis has left Canada on many Jr. ITF tours
through out the world. Alexis, also played in the major Florida tournaments
(Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl) where she was a finalist in the Women's Open Turkey Bowl in Boca Raton. Alexis has increased her Jr. ITF ranking to #255 from #500. Alexis represented Team BC at the Canada Summer Games where she was a silver medalist in the individual and team competitions. Alexis has signed a
National Letter of Intent to play for top tier NCAA Div 1 team
Georgia Tech beginning in the 2014-15 season.
No. 2
spot again belongs to
Katerina Boiko,
the winner of the Stanley Park Open singles.
The 15-year-old
Rosie Johanson is the
youngest player in the top ten, again, this year. Rosie won her first ITF title in Guatemala
in February. At the U16 Rogers National Indoor Championships in Montreal in March Rosie reached the final of U18 Nationals in Toronto.
She has had success in BC as well, winning the U18 Outdoor Provincial Singles and Doubles titles (with partner
Daniella Silva) in July, along with capturing the Delta Open title in June. In July Rosie was very excited to have the opportunity to play in
the Vancouver Open. Rosie was a member of the Team BC tennis team who captured the team silver medal at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
She then went on to win the U18 National Outdoor Championship Singles and Doubles titles (with partner
Daniella Silva) in Mississauga, Ontario. Rosie has now moved to Montreal and is training full-time at the National Training Centre. In September Rosie was honoured by Tennis BC and awarded the Junior Female Athlete of the Year Award.
Stacey Fung, the winner of the
ITF Grade 5 tournament held
October at Panorama Recreation Centre in Victoria, stands in 5th
place.
